The Emmy Nominations Cut Lea Michele, Too

The big TV news late yesterday was that Lea Michele, along with Chris Colfer, Cory Monteith, and perhaps other New Directions members, were on their way out of Glee.

The big TV news early this morning was the Emmy nominations announcement.

And the big question was: Would the Glee kids age their way out of the spolight there, too?

Unlike last year, Michele did not make the cut in the Lead Actress Comedy category.

Matthew Morrison, who's not a Glee kid, exactly, and probably will survive next season's graduation massacre, nonethless lost his spot, too, in the Lead Actor Comedy race.

The only two Glee regulars to nab nods were Colfer and Jane Lynch, a winner last year, and an Emmy host this year, both of whom are nominated in the supporting-actor categories.

With Michele out, the comedy actress field shaped up this way: The Big C's Laura Linney; Nurse Jackie's Edie Falco, looking for her second straight win here; Parks and Recreation's Amy Poehler; Mike & Molly's Melissa McCarthy, who helped announce this morning's noms; Raising Hope's Martha Plimpton, a dark-horse favorite; and, 30 Rock's Tina Fey, about whom even more may now be written.

The Morrison-free comedy actor field, meanwhile, looks like this: former Friends favorite Matt LeBlanc, now back with Episodes; The Big Bang Theory's Jim Parsons, the defending champ, and Johnny Galecki; The Office's Steve Carell, looking for his first win with his last shot as Michael Scott; Louie's Louis C.K., the cult pick; and, 30 Rock's Alec Baldwin.
